Trauma counselling in Burleigh Heads
A steady, confidential space to work through difficult experiences — where nothing is rushed and you set the pace from the first session to the last.
Support that moves at your pace
If something in your past is still shaping your present, counselling can give you room to look at it — carefully, and only as fast as feels manageable. You decide what we talk about, when, and how deeply. Many people find that having one hour a week where they don't have to hold it together is itself a relief; over time, that space can make the rest of the week easier too. There's no pressure here to be anywhere other than where you are.
Who this may help
Trauma isn't always one big event. Sometimes it's a childhood that asked too much of you, a relationship that slowly wore you down, or years of feeling unsafe in places that should have felt like home.
You might recognise some of this in yourself:
- Feeling on edge, easily overwhelmed, or constantly scanning for what might go wrong
- Finding it hard to trust people, even the ones you want to be close to
- The continuing effects of a difficult relationship — being jumpy around conflict, apologising too much, or bracing before hard conversations
- Reactions that feel bigger than the moment, and hard to explain to others
- A sense that the past is still following you, no matter how much time has passed
You don't need a diagnosis, a definition, or a story dramatic enough to qualify. If your experiences are still affecting how you feel and get through the day, that's reason enough. If any of this sounds familiar, counselling may be a place to start making sense of it.
How I work
I've spent the last five years in community services, much of it alongside people carrying trauma — including complex and relational trauma. You can read more about my background and qualifications on the About page.
In practice, that experience shapes a few concrete things about how sessions run:
- We go nowhere you're not ready to go. If a topic feels too big for today, we park it — and we might spend a whole session simply settling in first.
- I'll regularly check in with you about how the work is landing, and I'd rather hear "that didn't help" than silence.
- You choose what we explore and what we leave alone. Wanting to focus on sleep, or work stress, rather than the past itself, is a perfectly good place to start.
- We'll identify things that help you feel steadier day to day — and keep what works for you, not what's supposed to work.
I won't push you to retell your story before you're ready, and I won't treat you like a problem to be fixed. You're the one in charge of this work; my job is to make it safe and useful.
What sessions involve
Sessions run for 60 minutes and cost A$130. You can meet me in person in Burleigh Heads or online from anywhere in Australia — some people prefer sitting in the same room, others find it easier to talk from their own space. Either works.
Early sessions are simply about getting to know you: what brings you in, what life looks like right now, and what you'd like to be different. There's no intake interrogation and no pressure to share more than you want to. From there, we shape the work around your goals — and a lot of it is practical: noticing what sets you off, finding ways of responding to difficult moments that leave you less depleted, and building on what you're already doing to get through. We check in regularly about what's helping and what isn't.
Common questions
Do I have to talk about what happened to me?
No. You share what you want, when you want. A lot of useful work happens around how trauma is affecting your life now, without needing to go through every detail of the past.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies from person to person. Some people come for a handful of sessions around a specific issue; others prefer longer-term support. We'll talk about it openly as we go, and you're never locked in.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between us, with the standard legal and safety exceptions that apply to all counselling in Australia. I'm happy to explain those clearly in our first session.
What if I'm not sure counselling is for me?
That's a really common place to start. You're welcome to book a single session and see how it feels — there's no obligation to continue.
You might also be interested in grief and loss counselling, faith transitions counselling or online counselling across Australia.
When you're ready
There's no right time to start, and no obligation beyond one session. You can book online, call me on 0416 435 402, or ask a question first if you'd like to talk it through before booking.
